As an Excavation Superintendent, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating Heavy Civil construction projects.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Safety program
- Assist the Division V.P. and other team members as needed
- Ensure all assigned equipment is in proper operating condition, free of safety hazards, and cleaned and greased daily
- Maintain daily diaries and produce daily job reports
- Coordinate Heavy Civil construction projects (Earthwork, Underground Utilities, Site Preparation, etc.)
- Prepare daily, weekly, and three-week construction activity plans
- Direct field employees according to the daily plan
- Ensure all required materials and resources are ordered and available in accordance with the detailed construction activity plan
- Read and understand Plans, Specifications, and Soils Reports
- Read and understand the job book
- Ensure Labor and Equipment hours are correct and correctly coded
- Coordinate job activities and schedule reviews with the PM
- Direct subcontractors as required
- Review cost vs. budget and general construction productivity
- Encourage repeat business and develop field contacts
- Participate in client meetings
- Participate in meetings with authorities and owners
- Prepare job schedules for look-ahead meetings
- Maintain job files with correspondence and photographs
- Maintain current drawings on site
- Coordinate with the PM on all extra work
- Troubleshoot issues for the Division V.P., Project, and PM
As a Superintendent, you will supervise job-assigned operators and laborers, interacting closely with Building Superintendents, Field Foremen, and Field Crews, as well as Subcontractors.
QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- 5 years of related construction experience
- Plan reading
- Proficiency in equipment operation
- Proficiency in setting, transferring, and understanding grades
- Proficiency in managing and directing field personnel
- The ability to operate standard field equipment and instruments
- Proficiency in GPS-controlled equipment
- Attention to working safely
- Flexible, team-player work ethic
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to direct production work with confidence and a positive attitude
- Integrity in maintaining confidentiality with company-sensitive information
You must be able to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, contracts, specifications, or governmental regulations.
You must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions within groups of managers, clients, investors, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical SkillsYou must be able to calculate figures and amounts.
You must be able to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, and surveying.
Reasoning AbilityYou must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
You must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Special RequirementsYou must be able to pass controlled substance tests prior to and at all times during employment.
