Job Title: Phlebotomist

This is a contract job opportunity with potential for permanent employment. The position is located in Wesley Chapel, FL, and the schedule is Monday to Friday, 6:30 am to 3 pm.

Job Summary:

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The ideal candidate will have experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination.

Responsibilities:
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Properly explains the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection to patients.
  • Demonstrates technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understands physicians' orders and matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order.
  • Checks test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
  • Packages specimens for transport and stores them according to required temperature.
  • Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attends annual department trainings and answers telephone calls.
Requirements:
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed (required in some states).
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
