Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Surgical Staff Technician plays a vital role in supporting the surgical team by ensuring the proper operation and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist surgeons and medical personnel as a sterile member of the surgical team, adhering strictly to aseptic protocols.
  • Prepare medications under the supervision of the responsible registered nurse during surgical procedures.
  • Execute assigned tasks accurately and promptly as directed by the Director or the Operating Room Charge Nurse.
  • Report any damaged surgical instruments or equipment following established protocols.
  • Maintain a safe and tranquil environment for patients and healthcare staff.
  • Support nursing staff by scrubbing in on various surgical procedures efficiently.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of surgical equipment functionality and usage.
  • Ensure a clean and safe workspace to mitigate risks of surgical harm or injury.
  • Facilitate the swift turnover of surgical cases.
  • Act as a resource and mentor for new staff when necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in an outpatient surgical environment.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) as per American Heart Association guidelines is required prior to employment.
