Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The role involves executing court mandates related to the oversight, treatment, and rehabilitation of minors under judicial authority. This position provides guidance and support to juveniles and their families, helping them navigate everyday challenges.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a caseload of 40 to 60 juvenile clients.
  • Provide counseling to both parents and juveniles regarding issues faced by young offenders.
  • Appear in court multiple times weekly to present recommendations and case updates concerning juvenile clients.
  • Conduct weekly visits to educational institutions to address issues related to probationers.
  • Administer drug screenings as required.
  • Perform home visits, investigations, and crisis management interventions.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement in juvenile crime investigations and provide court testimony.
  • Participate in professional development through conferences and workshops.
  • Assist in transporting youth to various appointments as necessary.
  • Compile monthly reports for judicial review detailing the status of the caseload.
  • Prepare reports on specialized programs for juvenile offenders.
  • Serve as a representative on committees focused on child welfare.
  • Engage in community outreach by speaking to organizations and groups.
  • Maintain accurate records of probation cases, including restitution details.
  • Facilitate reading and truancy groups for juvenile clients.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Juvenile Justice, Sociology, Social Work, Education, or a related field is required. A minimum of one year of experience in juvenile court or a comparable combination of education and experience is necessary.

Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently are essential. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

A valid Class I Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) are required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Familiarity with state and federal laws regarding juvenile offenders is advantageous. Understanding of counseling techniques for individuals, groups, and families is beneficial. Ability to establish trust and rapport with clients is crucial. Skills in crisis intervention and effective communication, both written and verbal, are necessary. Capability to design and implement effective rehabilitation programs is required.

ADA MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Ability: This position requires the ability to remain stationary, operate office equipment, and perform analytical thinking under stress. Incumbents must manage multiple tasks, remember details, and adapt to changes. The role may involve moving about the office and occasionally lifting items up to 10 lbs.

Sensory Requirements: Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with hand-eye coordination for equipment use.

Environmental Factors: The position requires the ability to work collaboratively or independently.
