Job Summary:

The Library Clerk Courier will be responsible for providing friendly, efficient, and professional service to customers in-person, by telephone, and email. This includes checking books and other items in and out through our computerized system, answering general customer questions, and providing basic computer usage support. You will also be responsible for driving a full-size van delivering books and materials to other library locations, as well as performing data entry, sorting, and shelving library materials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional customer service to library patrons, responding to their inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Operate a cash register, conduct customer payment transactions, and maintain a cash drawer.
  • Perform data entry into our library system, spreadsheet, and other databases.
  • Sort, process, and shelve library materials, ensuring they are accurately cataloged and easily accessible to patrons.
  • Drive a full-size van delivering books and materials to other library locations, adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Assist with research and programs as needed, providing support to library staff and patrons.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 6 months of customer service and/or retail experience, with a strong focus on providing excellent customer service.
  • Experience within a library system is a plus, but not required.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record and clean MVR.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds with or without assistance, and to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent standing, walking, and bending.
Working Conditions:

This position requires working primarily in a clean, comfortable environment with shared workstations and equipment. You will also work outdoors when delivering library materials in varying weather conditions. Shift work may include days, nights, and weekends, with occasional holidays. You must be willing to work at least one closing shift.

Equipment Used:
  • Computer keyboard and telephone, fax machines, copiers, and microfilm equipment.
  • Full-size cargo van.
