Position Objective:

The Senior Accounting Specialist role is under the supervision of the Accounting Manager and encompasses a variety of accounting responsibilities. This position involves the preparation, maintenance, analysis, verification, and reconciliation of financial transactions, statements, records, and reports, ensuring the integrity of the company's ledgers and subsidiary financial systems.

This position is classified as Exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Precision in financial reporting for our vessels
  • Timely month-end closing processes
  • Effectiveness in month-end account reconciliations

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions while addressing discrepancies.
  • Oversees the general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts; reconciles entries and analyzes transactions.
  • Reconciles Voyage Financial reports, prepares journal entries, and manages Voyage settlements.
  • Handles reconciliation of onboard and in-transit inventory and generates journal entries.
  • Maintains records for various P&L and Balance Sheet accounts.
  • Documents financial transactions by entering account details.
  • Audits documents to verify financial transactions.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports.
  • Resolves financial discrepancies through collection and analysis of account information.
  • Creates customer invoices based on directives from the VP of Finance.
  • Reconciles account receivable balances with clients.
  • Conducts monthly reconciliation of credit card payments from various vessels and bank accounts.
  • Manages the client monthly billing process.
  • Assists the Accounting Manager and VP of Finance with ad-hoc reporting and analysis.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of experience in a corporate accounting role is preferred.
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential; a Microsoft certification is preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for both general ledger and statutory accounting is required, with Great Plains being preferred.
  • A willingness to learn quickly and adapt to new responsibilities is crucial.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are necessary.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
  • Attention to detail and accountability for all assigned tasks are critical.
  • Support for additional ad-hoc duties as needed.
  • A strong work ethic combined with a positive, proactive attitude is essential.
  • Team-oriented with the flexibility to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management.
  • Experience in the cruise industry is a plus.
