Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our scientific policy development team. As a Research Scientist, you will play a critical role in helping us redefine the way health plans, physicians, and laboratories coordinate laboratory care for millions of patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and summarize evidence-based scientific literature to inform policy development
  • Research and draft responses to client scientific questions
  • Draft new policies and revise content of existing Avalon scientific laboratory policies
  • Conduct client policy reconciliation as directed by the Manager, Laboratory Policy
  • Format and update documents
  • File and maintain multiple forms and electronic documents
  • Keep track of all policy changes in several spreadsheets and trackers
  • Maintain various spreadsheets (SmartSheet)
  • Work in collaboration with other departments
  • Provide inter-departmental communication regarding policy updates
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Manager, Laboratory Policy
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, Molecular Biology, Medical Technology, or related field
  • Experience creating/revising medical policies and/or clinical practice guidelines within a managed care organization or similar healthcare environment
  • Understanding of process improvement principles
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)
  • Knowledge of standard editorial/style conventions (e.g., APA format)
  • Strong general administrative skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Flexible to changes and innovation
  • Ability to learn new technologies
  • Ability to interact effectively with counterparts at assigned clients
Preferred Qualifications
  • American Medical Writers Association Essential Skills or equivalent
  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory testing methods
  • Customer service experience
  • Previous health plan experience
