Gastroenterology Assistant

As a Gastroenterology Assistant at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care in a dynamic and collaborative environment. You will work closely with the healthcare team to provide exceptional support and assistance to patients and healthcare professionals, promoting population-based care, continuity of care, customer satisfaction, and self-care.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical / Procedural:
Assist staff nurses and physicians with endoscopy procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety. Set up and maintain equipment, supplies, and specimens accurately during procedures. Provide clear instructions and explanations to patients, minimizing physical and emotional discomfort. Participate in pre-procedure briefings and time-outs, ensuring seamless communication and coordination.
Knowledge and Technology:
Develop and maintain a strong knowledge base in endoscopic instruments, accessories, and equipment, recognizing malfunctions and taking appropriate action. Ensure adequate supply levels in procedure rooms and the scope processing room. Act as a resource person for staff members and Kaiser personnel, promoting continuous learning and improvement.
Leadership:
Collaborate with the Team Leader to implement department programs, re-designing them as necessary for maximum effectiveness and efficiency. Participate in unit Quality Assurance programs, driving quality improvement and excellence.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum two years of experience as a G.I./Endoscopy Assistant or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training in endoscopic-related procedures. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant course or LPN licensure. Good auditory and visual acuity, and good manual dexterity are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
More than two years of direct experience as a certified Endoscopy Assistant. Completion of G.I. Assistant SGNA modules.
