The Rural Family Medicine Physician delivers extensive family healthcare services tailored to individuals of all ages and genders. Additionally, in response to community needs, the Rural Physician engages in shared after-hours emergency call responsibilities. The medical services rendered align with SEARHC policies, Medical Staff Bylaws, and widely accepted medical standards.

Core Responsibilities and Duties

  • Delivers thorough primary care encompassing diagnosis, treatment, minor procedures, care coordination, referrals, preventive care, and health maintenance for a committed patient panel.
  • Actively participates in local urgent and emergency care on-call rotation.
  • Ensures precise and timely documentation of services in compliance with SEARHC policies.
  • Enhances patient experience through effective communication and listening skills, fostering long-term patient relationships.
  • Engages in SEARHC quality care initiatives and quality assurance programs.
  • Participates in provider and clinic meetings, as well as SEARHC medical staff activities.

Required Education, Certifications, and Licenses

  • Valid State of Alaska Medical License as an MD or DO.
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Internal Medicine-Pediatrics. If Board Eligible, must achieve Board Certification within three years of employment.
  • Maintains active unrestricted DEA registration.
  • Retains active SEARHC medical staff privileges.
  • Obtains BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications within one year of employment.
  • ALSO training is preferred.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Proficient in the principles and practices of primary care.
  • Familiar with standards of care, EMTALA, HIPAA, healthcare risk management principles, medical ethics, and malpractice principles.

  • Ability to communicate in a respectful, helpful, and collaborative manner with both staff and patients.

  • Deliver high-quality healthcare services, including performing medical procedures suitable for outpatient and emergency settings.
  • Provide clinical leadership, promote teamwork and collaboration, offer clinical guidance to midlevel providers, and manage conflicts effectively.
  • Utilize electronic medical records and other necessary clinical technologies efficiently.
  • Clearly articulate ideas through oral and written communication, analyze complex situations effectively, and implement clinical program strategies successfully.
