About the Position:

The George Mason University Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center is seeking dedicated part-time Aquatic Safety Officers. The institution is committed to fostering excellence and diversity among its staff and encourages candidates who will contribute to a culturally inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively recognize and respond to emergencies by implementing the Emergency Action Plan (EAP);
  • Maintain vigilant surveillance of the pool area at all times;
  • Minimize distractions while on duty;
  • Communicate and enforce all pool policies and regulations in a friendly and professional manner;
  • Adhere to dress and appearance standards, including wearing appropriate swim attire and safety equipment;
  • Conduct regular pool inspections and maintain chemical logs, reporting any issues to the head guard;
  • Utilize proper radio communication protocols and respond promptly to inquiries;
  • Complete daily cleaning tasks;
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions;
  • Ensure a welcoming atmosphere for all patrons;
  • Document any incidents or injuries accurately;
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid, AED, and CPR is mandatory;
  • Applicants must be at least 16 years old;
  • A skills assessment will be conducted prior to employment.
  • This position requires a criminal background check, and employment is contingent upon successful completion.
