Role Responsibilities

As a Cognitive Systems Engineer, you will:

  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team focused on projects related to national health, special operations, cybersecurity, and homeland security.
  • Engage with fellow scientists and technical experts to conduct research and develop systems that advance cognitive engineering and human-machine collaboration.
  • Utilize User-Centered Design (UCD), User Experience (UX), and User Interface (UI) design methodologies to create prototypes that effectively capture user and technical requirements.
  • Analyze and evaluate human system designs, including conducting requirements analysis, task design, use case development, and workload modeling.
  • Work closely with operators and experts to gather performance feedback, human requirements, and technical recommendations for complex systems.
  • Lead and participate in cross-organizational working groups to review test outcomes and coordinate analyses aimed at enhancing human-system interactions.
  • Support the creation and assessment of systems engineering documentation related to human factors, usability, task analysis, and human systems integration.
Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in psychology, human factors engineering, human systems integration, computer science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience demonstrating expertise in requirements analysis, experimental design, human performance measurement, and system evaluation.
  • Experience with User-Centered Design (UCD), User Experience (UX), and User Interface (UI) design.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • The ability to travel occasionally for meetings with stakeholders.
  • Eligibility to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance and ultimately a Secret level clearance.
Preferred Qualifications

Candidates who exceed our minimum qualifications will have:

  • A Master’s or PhD in psychology, human factors engineering, human systems integration, computer science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in operating or managing a human performance laboratory with physiological measurement capabilities.
  • A background in health, government, or military systems.
