Job Title: Senior Electrical and FPGA Engineer

Planar Systems is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical and FPGA Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our design engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative electrical and FPGA-based solutions for the video and display industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop circuit board schematics and validate their functionality through testing and/or simulation.
  • Work with the PCB layout designer to ensure appropriate placement and signal routing.
  • Collaborate with the product development team to define product requirements and specifications.
  • Test and validate electrical designs to ensure they meet the required specifications and comply with safety regulations.
  • Architect, design, and verify Verilog and/or VHDL code for complex video processing designs.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, software developers, and IP block providers to integrate electrical and/or FPGA designs into larger systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any electrical or FPGA issues that arise during the product development process or in mass production.
  • Research the latest technology and industry trends, and test concepts to be implemented within products.
  • Generate design documentation, including BOMs, ECOs, specifications, test results, and process instructions.
  • Validate products and designs from suppliers to verify the products meet our requirements, and document/troubleshoot any issues found.
  • Communicate issues and actions to our suppliers to get resolution of issues.
  • Assist junior-level electrical and/or FPGA engineers in their development efforts, to ensure the overall success of the team's projects.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in a high-tech industry, preferably display-related. Demonstrated knowledge of LCD, LED, digital signage, video processors, and related products preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience with hardware description languages (HDLs), such as Verilog and/or VHDL, in a complex design. Display-related experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience creating circuit board schematics and validating their functionality through testing and/or simulation. PCB layout experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture software. Experience with high-speed digital signal technology strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and electronic components and systems, including microcontrollers, FPGAs, power supplies, and sensors.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in developing products adherent to FCC, UL, CE, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and utilize standard Microsoft applications regularly to create documentation and communicate with team members.
  • Proven ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate all phases of the product development process with minimal supervision, including initiation, development, implementation, internal testing, outside lab testing, and ongoing sustaining.
  • Ability to operate and communicate effectively under pressure. Ability to communicate clearly to US and foreign regulatory, government, and test agencies, US and foreign suppliers, external customers, and with a wide range of internal customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a global team, including conducting business during non-standard hours.
  • Willingness to travel to Europe and/or Asia for design-related tasks.
