Position Overview

The Senior Buyer is accountable for acquiring materials and services essential for maintaining seamless operations within the manufacturing sector. This role entails planning, executing, and managing procurement activities to guarantee timely delivery of all assigned contracts, commodities, components, parts, and materials. Collaboration with various management levels is crucial to identify and address issues related to value, quality, total cost, and operational impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and track open orders to ensure timely delivery of raw materials, equipment, parts, supplies, and services to maintain uninterrupted production.
  • Evaluate and monitor supplier performance, inventory levels, and key performance indicators. Formulate strategies for enhancements, track progress, and communicate gaps to both the business and suppliers.
  • Articulate, interpret, and relay material/service requirements to suppliers, escalating issues as necessary in a timely manner.
  • Address receiving and/or accounts payable discrepancies.
  • Assess requests, liaise with suppliers and plant operations, determine the suitability/availability of items/services, compare specifications, and evaluate alternatives with a strong emphasis on cost management.
  • Facilitate procurement activities for projects that involve highly technical specifications and intricate evaluation processes.
  • Examine purchase requisitions, drawings, and specifications for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to established procedures and policies, effectively communicating these requirements to suppliers.
  • Drive initiatives to optimize inventory levels, minimize supplier lead times, and enhance responsiveness and flexibility.
  • Prepare purchase orders, manage raw material requirements, and expedite follow-up and receipt of materials, supplies, and services.
  • Evaluate defective or unsatisfactory goods/services, identify the source of defects, and implement corrective measures.
  • Explore opportunities to enhance procurement processes and reduce acquisition costs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or directed.
Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Proven expertise in standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the procurement domain.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to prioritize critical business objectives and adapt swiftly to changes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Aptitude for multitasking in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related technical field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement or a related materials management role.
  • Familiarity with Materials Requirement Planning.
  • Experience with ERP systems; Oracle experience is a significant advantage.
Work Environment
  • This role is primarily sedentary.
  • Operates within a professional office environment and routinely utilizes standard office equipment.
  • May involve exposure to manufacturing and warehouse settings; compliance with safety and GMP protocols is required in those areas.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 20 pounds may be necessary.
  • Travel requirements are typically less than 5% of the time.
