Overview
The Power Systems Design Engineer will play a crucial role in the engineering team, focusing on the design and development of electrical systems tailored to client specifications for marine applications. This position entails creating comprehensive electrical one-line diagrams that illustrate the complete power distribution framework, from generators to the final power panels. The Engineer will also be tasked with drafting and evaluating technical specifications and schematics, ensuring compliance with industry standards. As a key contributor, the Power Systems Design Engineer will be expected to provide mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and assess switchboards, load centers, shore power panels, and other power-related systems.
- Develop detailed electrical one-line diagrams based on user requirements for complete vessel systems.
- Collaborate with suppliers to gather load data for integration into comprehensive electrical designs.
- Interpret and apply customer specifications and drawings relevant to electrical systems.
- Assist Business Development by providing technical insights and reviews for new project proposals.
- Engage with clients, sales teams, and field service personnel to ensure project alignment.
- Prepare customer-specific drawings, assembly schematics, and bills of materials for switchboard components, ensuring adherence to applicable codes and standards.
- Select appropriate electrical devices for assembly and ensure correct installation and wiring methods.
- Proven experience with low and medium voltage electrical solutions.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards such as ABS, USCG, DNV, and NEC.
- Understanding of electrical component properties and analysis.
- Knowledge of bus bar configurations and mechanical layouts.
- Experience with protection schemes and their applications.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD software.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution (Master's degree preferred).
- Over 10 years of experience in power systems, preferably in marine environments.
This role does not include supervisory duties.
Physical Requirements
