Overview: The Patient Care Technician is integral in assisting registered nurses with delivering high-quality patient care. This role involves a range of critical responsibilities, including greeting patients, preparing them for evaluations and procedures, drawing blood samples, conducting EKG tests, and ensuring that all medical equipment is clean and operational.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Greet patients and verify identification through proper wristband checks.
  2. Prepare patients for assessments, physical examinations, and medical procedures.
  3. Collect blood samples using aseptic techniques, ensuring proper labeling and handling of specimens.
  4. Conduct EKG tests as instructed by nursing staff.
  5. Ensure that all necessary medical equipment is present, functional, and sanitized.
  6. Assist in the transportation of patients to various departments as needed.
  7. Support patients with meal assistance or feeding when required.
  8. Monitor inventory levels in assigned areas and restock supplies as necessary.
  9. Prepare patient rooms for incoming admissions.
  10. Deliver direct hygiene and comfort care, including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, and bed making.
  11. Record vital signs upon admission, documenting findings and notifying the registered nurse of any concerns.
  12. Perform glucose finger stick tests and collect other specimens as directed.
  13. Document daily patient weights and monitor intake and output.
  14. Maintain a safe environment for patients by promptly responding to call lights and communicating any changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
  15. Recognize and address the specific needs of diverse patient populations, adjusting care based on age, culture, language, and sensory needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Certification as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or completion of a Patient Care Technician program (including Phlebotomy, EKG, and nursing assistant training).
  2. A minimum of one year of experience as a Patient Care Technician or Certified Nursing Assistant in a healthcare setting is highly desirable.

Certification Requirements: Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from the American Heart Association.

Interactions: Regular engagement with medical personnel, patients, and visitors.
