Position Overview

The Cardiac Sonography Specialist is responsible for conducting a range of cardiac assessments, including EKGs, Holter monitoring, Stress Testing, and Echocardiography. This role requires independent judgment, creativity, and initiative while focusing on continuous improvement in patient care delivery. The specialist fosters a positive environment for interpersonal and interdisciplinary collaboration and exemplifies the hospital's values in daily activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates proficiency in departmental protocols and operates all necessary equipment while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Obtains and documents images to illustrate both normal and pathological findings, maintaining accurate patient records, including lab results and medical histories.
  • Evaluates patients and verifies their identities to ensure the correct procedures are performed.
  • Communicates procedures to patients, prepares them for examinations, and secures informed consent when required.
  • Ensures patient privacy and safety throughout the examination process.
  • Utilizes various computer functions for data entry, documentation of charges, and management of incomplete work reports.
  • Performs clerical tasks as needed to support departmental operations, including answering phones.
  • Monitors patient conditions and medical equipment during procedures, reporting any changes to care services.
  • Documents findings and communicates results to physicians effectively.
  • Plans, implements, and coordinates echocardiographic procedures, overseeing the work of other team members as necessary.
  • Maintains a high volume of procedures efficiently while adhering to departmental standards.
  • Follows infection control protocols, ensuring a clean and organized work environment and reporting equipment issues to supervisors.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives and contributes to data collection for quality enhancement.
  • Engages in mandatory training and continuing education to uphold professional standards.

Qualifications

  • Registry in Echo Sonography or ARDMS certification, or eligibility for registration.
  • Clinical experience in performing echocardiography is required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in the cardiology field, particularly in echo sonography, is preferred.
