Internship Overview

The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) offers an exciting opportunity for an 8-week, paid internship in the Department of the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. This program is designed to provide a professional experience for students, emerging professionals, and those entering the workforce, focusing on equity and inclusion in the arts.

Salary and Benefits

This internship offers a competitive hourly rate of $18.75, providing a stipend for 35 hours per week over 8 weeks. Interns will have access to training sessions, professional development, and a weekly Career Insights guest speaker series.

Job Description

We seek a highly motivated individual to contribute to research that helps FAMSF collaborate and consult with Tribal communities regarding its collections. As an intern, you will assist in provenance and object-based archival collections research, genealogical research methods, and the practical application of NAGPRA and CalNAGPRA in a fine arts museum setting.

Requirements

  • Education: One of the following qualifications must be met: A high school diploma/GED with at least 2 years of work and/or volunteer experience; or A high school diploma/GED with 2 years of post-high school coursework including community college, university, vocational/trade school; or A recent graduate of college/trade/graduate school who completed their program within the past 2 years.
  • Location: Preference will be given to those who live or attend school in the 9 San Francisco Bay Area counties. We do not provide travel, relocation, or housing assistance for interns at this time.
  • Skills:
    • Attention to detail
    • Familiarity with proper citation and formatting of research documents or willingness to learn
    • Experience with Word, Excel, and Google Drive, particularly Google Sheets and Docs ability
    • Experience with file naming and organization or willingness to learn
    • Ability to summarize and synthesize large amounts of information
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Experience with database management software or willingness to learn
    • Independent research experience
    • Experience working with Tribal communities
    • Coursework in Native American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Visual Arts, Anthropology, or related fields
