Position Overview

The Radiology Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the healthcare team by managing various administrative tasks related to patient imaging services. This position involves the organization, retrieval, and processing of patient x-ray films, as well as assisting in the transportation of patients to and from the radiology department.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Radiology Support Specialist include:

  • Preparing patient files and ensuring all necessary documentation is in order.
  • Organizing x-ray films for review by medical professionals.
  • Maintaining an efficient filing system for x-ray reports and films.
  • Implementing a sign-out system to ensure accurate tracking of x-ray films.
  • Retrieving and delivering x-ray films to physicians within the healthcare facility.
  • Collecting x-ray films on loan and returning them to their designated locations.
  • Performing general clerical tasks, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and preparing billing documentation when necessary.
  • Keeping the filing area organized and tidy.
  • Transporting patients and their medical records to various areas within the facility.
  • Loading and unloading x-ray film cassettes and processed films from the automatic processing unit.
  • Assisting in the preparation of photographic solutions for film processing.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in the darkroom, waiting areas, and examination rooms.
  • Providing assistance to patients in dressing and preparing for examinations as needed.
  • Supporting technologists in assisting patients onto x-ray tables.
  • Carrying out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Physical Requirements:

The position requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, as well as the capacity to lift, carry, push, and pull weights ranging from 10 to 100 pounds, depending on the task.

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or GED is required. Candidates should have:

  • Grade 2: A minimum of three months of experience in a healthcare setting performing filing or support duties.
  • Grade 4: At least twelve months of experience in a Radiology Department.
