About the Role

Milwaukee Tool is seeking a highly skilled Principal Motor Control Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our electrical engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, modeling, simulating, and implementing innovative control algorithms for our products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with various engineering teams to design and implement advanced control algorithms
  • Develop, analyze, maintain, and document control system architecture
  • Use modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow
  • Collaborate with hardware and firmware engineers to optimize and implement next-generation control algorithms
  • Peer review software and controls designs/source code
  • Innovate control solutions to meet the needs of the business
  • Use laboratory equipment to validate control algorithms
  • Track projects to ensure adherence to schedule and Milwaukee Tool's processes
  • Schedule, develop agendas for, facilitate, and document technical meetings and formal presentations
  • Develop and apply manufacturing mindset to designs to effectively and efficiently mass produce power tools
  • Acquire knowledge and maintain an understanding of Milwaukee Tool's development and manufacturing processes
Requirements
  • Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in the field of model-based control development utilizing design tools such as MATLAB/Simulink
  • 10+ years of Matlab/Simulink model-based design code generation and automated testing
  • Extensive knowledge of closed loop control theory, vector control, and pulse width modulation techniques
  • Extensive knowledge of control loop tuning and stability analysis
  • Ability to read power electronics schematics and component data sheets
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, exercises independent judgement, and works well under pressure in a dynamic environment
  • Self-motivated, organized, efficient, process-oriented with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time (domestic and international)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing plant models to simulate physical systems
  • Experience with single-phase and/or three-phase power applications
  • Experience with single-phase and/or three-phase motor control applications
  • Knowledge of advanced control systems, model predictive control
  • Experience with auto code generation
  • Working knowledge of battery, drive, and motor systems
  • Experience leading technical teams
