Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team at Food for Thought. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing kitchen operations, managing staff, and ensuring the highest quality standards are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Chef Manager in managing staff and stepping in when short-staffed.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of how all cafés and commissary kitchens operate.
  • Be responsible for all food and beverage purchasing from vendors and managing and recording inventory.
  • Work closely with the Chef Manager in the planning and costing of weekly menu specials utilizing the on-hand product and working within budget constraints.
  • Work closely with the Chef Manager in executing special events.
  • Manage and help execute Catering events and upkeep of Grab and Go machines.
  • Meet with the Chef Manager daily to discuss next day's prep lists (kitchen, catering events, grab and go, etc.), new menu and general updates.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation is maintained in the BOH.
  • Assist other cafés, if needed.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of culinary leadership experience.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient computer skills and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language to effectively communicate with guests, coworkers, and vendors.
  • Effective organizational skills to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Food Handler or Food Service Manager Certificate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Culinary Arts
  • Creativity and adaptability to challenges.
  • Ability to work in a team, as well as on individual tasks.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with other team members.
  • Ability to budget and manage inventory.
