Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our team in Labor and Delivery at The University of Chicago Medicine. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures, providing exceptional patient care, and collaborating with our multidisciplinary team.


Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Operative Preparation
    • Assist in preparing the operating room for surgical procedures, including setting up equipment and supplies.
    • Ensure that all necessary instruments and equipment are available and functioning properly.
  • Surgical Assistance
    • Provide technical assistance to surgeons and other medical staff during surgical procedures.
    • Maintain a sterile environment and ensure that all surgical instruments and equipment are properly cleaned and sterilized.
  • Post-Operative Care
    • Assist in preparing patients for post-operative care, including transferring them to the recovery room.
    • Ensure that all necessary documentation is completed and accurate.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Collaborate with the surgical team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses, to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
    • Communicate effectively with patients and their families to ensure their comfort and satisfaction.

Requirements
  • Education and Certification
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification or equivalent required.
  • Skills and Experience
    • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technologist in a hospital setting.
    • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
