Job Summary

The Obstetrical Technologist plays a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting the surgical team at Rush University Medical Center. As a key member of the perioperative team, you will assist in preparing patients for surgery, maintaining a sterile environment, and ensuring the smooth execution of surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply aseptic technique to maintain a sterile environment
  • Assist in preparing patients for surgery, including positioning and draping
  • Handle and secure instruments, cords, and draping materials using aseptic technique
  • Participate in surgical cases, including scrubbing and assisting the surgical team
  • Monitor and maintain the integrity of the sterile field and back table
  • Recognize and report breaks in technique to the RN in room
  • Assist in opening and closing sterile supplies
  • Stock and maintain unit supplies, including instrumentation and equipment
  • Perform quality safety checks on equipment, including the Glucometer
  • Assist in transferring patients, supplies, and specimens
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Analytical ability and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with others in difficult situations
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program preferred

The Surgical Technologist will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, interacting with patients, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals. The ability to work effectively in a team setting and maintain a calm demeanor in high-pressure situations is essential.
