Position Overview

Core Objective

The Environmental Field Specialist is tasked with the management and transportation of both hazardous and non-hazardous materials. This role is critical in ensuring safety and compatibility during all operations, including lab packing services provided to clients. The position may require travel to various external sites as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prioritize Health & Safety by adhering to established policies and procedures, maintaining a safe working environment at all times.
  • Assist in the classification of chemicals according to hazard categories; pack compatible substances in suitable containers and prepare them for transport, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.
  • Identify and gather supplies necessary for job execution, traveling to diverse industrial, laboratory, and educational facilities to conduct lab packing services.
  • Support the characterization of materials at field project locations.
  • Adhere to proper placarding and load segregation protocols when transporting hazardous substances.
  • Foster positive client relationships through effective communication with customers.
  • Oversee Field Technicians/Drivers engaged in waste collection activities.
  • Possess introductory knowledge of high-hazard materials management and cylinder handling.

Educational Background

A four-year degree in a scientific or environmental discipline is preferred, or a minimum of two years of relevant experience is required.

Professional Experience

Previous experience in lab packing or environmental waste management is advantageous.

Skills and Competencies

This role is classified as safety-sensitive. The ability to maintain constant alertness and operate safely is essential. A solid understanding of federal, state, and local regulations governing the Environmental Services sector is necessary. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders.

Job Requirements

Due to potential exposure to various materials, candidates must maintain a clean-shaven appearance to ensure proper use of respiratory protection. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, DOT physical, and drug screening is mandatory. Candidates must obtain a Class B CDL with a hazmat endorsement within six months of hire. Compliance with all Heritage Driving Qualifications is required, along with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check to company standards. Regular and reliable attendance is a fundamental aspect of this role.

A post-offer drug screening will be conducted.
