Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Classroom Support Specialist to join our team at Arlington Independent School District. About the Role:

  • This position will provide critical support to our special education teachers, assisting with instructional activities, managing classroom environments, and implementing individualized education plans.
  • The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work effectively with diverse groups, and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • A valid driver's license and willingness to participate in specialized training programs, such as de-escalation and restraint techniques, are highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Support
  • Assist teachers in planning and implementing instructional activities, including one-to-one and small group instruction, classroom organization, and behavior shaping.
  • Provide support with health-related services, such as transitioning, feeding, toileting, hygiene, or other health-related needs, while maintaining student dignity and safety.
  • Deliver teacher-determined support and services in assigned instructional settings or classes.
School Climate and Organization
  • Collaborate with school administrators, special education teachers, therapists, and regular education teachers to ensure student success and safety.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to improve skills needed to successfully complete responsibilities for specialized programs.
Student Management and Supervision
  • Supervise and instruct students in the absence of the teacher during ARD meetings, staffings, and conferences.
  • Supervise students during bus duty, building/playground duty, lunch duty, and co-curricular activities.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • School-based experience preferred, with a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift and/or move at least 50 pounds of materials, or assist with lifting children from wheelchairs, onto changing tables, etc.

Salary Information:

The estimated salary for this position is $45,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
