Job Summary:

The Legal Defense Fund is seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented Policy Interns to support our policy efforts in the areas of Education, Political Participation, Economic Justice, and Criminal Justice. As a Policy Intern, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including policy research and analysis, memorandum writing, and development of educational and outreach materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct policy research and analysis on a range of topics, including education, voting rights, economic justice, and criminal justice.
  • Write memoranda and other policy documents to support LDF's advocacy efforts.
  • Develop educational and outreach materials, such as fact sheets, policy briefs, and social media content.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of events, including brown bag luncheons and other educational programs.
  • Provide administrative support to the policy team, including data entry, filing, and other tasks as needed.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in law school and able to receive academic credit or funding from your law school's public interest programs.
  • Strong research and writing skills, with the ability to analyze complex policy issues and communicate them effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to public interest law and social justice.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Second or third-year law students preferred, but exceptional first-year law students will be considered.
  • Experience working on policy issues related to education, voting rights, economic justice, and criminal justice.
  • Knowledge of the civil rights movement and the work of the Legal Defense Fund.
