Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant to join our team as a Hospitalist. The successful candidate will provide high-quality patient care, work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team, and contribute to the development of our clinical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide medical care and management to patients on the regular wards, exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided.
  • Round on high-acuity patients, discuss with the primary team and nursing staff, and develop a plan.
  • Respond to rapid response events by leading a multidisciplinary team.
  • Respond to code blue events by leading a multidisciplinary team.
  • Assist with appropriate documentation.
  • Lead hot debriefing following codes.
  • Communicate with primary team and nursing staff to ensure smooth transition of care and handoff when patients are transferred to other units.
  • Discuss treatment options and associated risks, benefits, and limitations with patients and families to assist them in making informed decisions.
  • Initiate goals of care discussion with patients and their families where appropriate.
  • Perform and record a medical history and physical examination.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other related studies.
  • Prescribe, order, and administer medications.
  • Direct other medical personnel and health professionals in the execution of patient care.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA.
  • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of Iowa.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Reasonable experience in Acute Care or Intensive Care clinical practice in the last 5-7 years.
  • Experience providing overall medical care and medical management for patients in an inpatient setting.
  • Experience exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided.
  • Experience managing length of stay, improving resource utilization, and decreasing costs to patients and the institution while providing personalized care.
