Substation Journeyman Job Description

PacifiCorp is seeking a skilled Substation Journeyman to join our team. As a Substation Journeyman, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, adjusting, troubleshooting, and repairing substation equipment, including transformers, regulators, load tap changers, circuit breakers, circuit switchers, motor-operated and manual switches, bus work, wiring, battery banks, and chargers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, test, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair substation equipment.
  • Operate substation equipment, including switching and grounding.
  • Perform testing on substation apparatus, such as power factor, transformer turns ratio, megger, ductor, battery load testing, oil sampling, and other analytical tests as assigned.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by following safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and actively maintaining an accident-free workplace.
  • Work in confined spaces and elevated work areas, such as heights from ladders, structures, scaffolds, buckets, and boom trucks.
  • May work independently or with others, occasionally work long hours during emergency conditions, and be responsible for tools, test equipment, and vehicles.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a substation journeyman or a journeyman presently enrolled in the substation journeyman training program in good standing.
  • Must have a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
  • Must complete the substation journeyman training program.
  • This position requires a post-offer, pre-placement physical capacity screening, conducted by a licensed physical therapist, to assure the candidate meets the physical demands of the job.

Physical Demands: The job duties of the Lineman require lifting in excess of 75 lbs from floor to waist and waist to overhead, carrying in excess of 75 lbs with both hands, and pushing and pulling in excess of 100 lbs of exertional force. Job duties of the Lineman require sustained, awkward positions/postures, including bending and twisting at the waist and neck; reaching forward, to the side, across the body, and overhead. Additional requirements of the Lineman position include forceful grip and pinch; manipulation of small objects; balancing on one or both legs during dynamic activities; manipulation of large objects during activities requiring balance and sustained awkward postures.
