Refractory Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Refractory Technician to join our team at North American Construction Services, Ltd. in Birmingham, AL.

• Read and interpret blueprints and job specifications to perform various welding tasks.
• Lay and align firebricks, gunite, castables, and refractory tile to build or repair structures or high-temperature equipment.
• Operate and maintain refractory tools and equipment.
• Tear out refractory masonry and lay refractory bricks.
• Install poured castables, gunnable castables, shotcrete, and lining with ceramic welding.
• Record keeping, including quality control, temperature monitoring, and timesheets.
• Perform work to a quality level consistent with Fives North American Construction Services standard practice.
• Conform to OSHA and Company safety plan, including wearing personal protective equipment.
• Operate refractory pumps, gunite rigs, refractory mixers, forklifts, skid steers, and other equipment.

• Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures.
• Experience with firebrick, castable, plastics, ceramics, gunnite, shotcrete/pump, and welding for thermal process applications.
• 2+ years of construction experience.
• Must have own hand tools and reliable transportation.
• Ability to recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools.
• Work on various types of refractory construction projects.
• Skill in all phases of refractory construction, including gunite, pouring, ramming, pumping, ceramic fiber, and firebrick installation.
• High School Diploma or GED Certificate preferred.
• Vocational school training or apprenticeship training preferred.
• Ability to travel 50-75%.
