Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Nursing Faculty to join our team at the University of New Mexico - Hospitals. As a key member of our Patient Education department, you will play a vital role in providing direct and group education to patients with diabetes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement educational programs for patients with diabetes, ensuring adherence to nationally recognized standards.
  • Assess and identify educational needs and issues of patients, working with the Diabetes Education Coordinator and Medical Director to support educational plans.
  • Provide direct and group education to patients, utilizing adult learning principles and current area needs.
  • Maintain quality of educational programs by reviewing evaluation summaries, maintaining certifications, and staying current in specialty areas.
  • Serve as an educational resource and role model for clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Establish and monitor accurate outcomes for educational programs, revising them as necessary.
  • Establish communication and consultation relationships with assigned areas, both clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Attend meetings and represent the department or hospital within related committees or the community, as assigned.
  • Maintain reports and records, collecting statistical data for administrative and/or quality improvement purposes.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families, adhering to hospital standards.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops.
  • Foster a proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Essential: Bachelor's Degree
  • Nonessential: Master's Degree

Experience:

  • Essential: 3 years directly related experience
  • Nonessential: 2 years directly related experience, Bilingual English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo

Credentials:

  • Essential: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days, NM RN or NM RD, LD, LN, or NM Pharmacist License
  • Nonessential: Certified Diabetic Educator

Physical Conditions:

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Working conditions:

Essential: Minor Hazard - physical risks, dirt, dust, fumes, noise
