Bassett Medical Center is seeking a skilled Laboratory Support Technician I to join our team. As a key member of our clinical laboratory, you will be responsible for performing blood specimen collection, ordering laboratory tests, and processing specimens for testing.
Key Responsibilities- Collect blood specimens from adult and pediatric patients, including venous, capillary, and blood culture samples.
- Order laboratory tests in the Laboratory Information System and process requisitions.
- Prepare samples for testing and process test results referred to other reference laboratories.
- Communicate with patients, explaining procedures and answering questions in a confidential manner.
- Collect high-quality specimens for all tests ordered, meeting quality requirements and labeling specimens accurately.
- Review specimens and requisitions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Process specimens accurately, consistently relabeling and aliquoting specimens as needed.
- Deliver specimens to the laboratory in a timely manner and prepare specimens for reference labs.
- Assist with training new staff members and complete responsibilities defined on the laboratory's task lists.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- One year of experience in a similar capacity preferred.
- CPT-A Phlebotomy Certification (CPT) from a formal phlebotomy program preferred.

CompensationThe salary range for this position is $17.67-$26.50 per hour.
