GENERAL OVERVIEW

The Youth Rehabilitation Officer is responsible for overseeing and providing direct support to adolescents in a correctional environment. This role focuses on assisting youth in developing skills to manage stress and trauma, promoting socially acceptable behaviors, and ensuring a secure atmosphere. The officer engages with youth in a manner that balances structure with an understanding of their developmental needs, particularly those who have experienced complex trauma.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The position entails:

  • Facilitating rehabilitation efforts by supervising youth and coaching their personal growth according to tailored treatment plans.
  • Maintaining a safe environment and implementing security protocols to protect youth, staff, and visitors.
  • Participating in competency-based training to effectively coach youth using trauma-informed methods.
  • Monitoring and documenting youth behaviors and progress, ensuring adherence to treatment objectives.
  • Engaging in team discussions to contribute to the development of each youth's treatment strategy.
  • Providing a structured daily schedule for youth, ensuring clarity and consistency in transitions.
  • Responding to behavioral challenges with appropriate interventions while promoting emotional self-regulation.
  • Conducting searches for contraband and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to youth activities and incidents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The officer will:

  • Model self-regulation techniques and maintain composure during crises.
  • Assist youth in recognizing their emotional triggers and developing coping strategies.
  • Supervise youth during various activities, ensuring engagement and compliance with facility rules.
  • Participate in physical interventions when necessary, following established protocols.
  • Ensure that all interactions with youth are respectful and promote a positive environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be at least 23 years old and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Higher education or relevant coursework.
  • Experience in supervising or providing support services in correctional or treatment settings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role requires the ability to perform various physical tasks, including lifting, restraining youth, and maintaining a vigilant presence in a dynamic environment.
