Job Summary

Maryland Oncology is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician II to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician II, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our oncology patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Dispensing and Delivery: Under the supervision of a physician or pharmacist, provide in-office dispensing of oral drugs to oncology patients, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of medications.
  • Record Keeping and Inventory Control: Maintain accurate patient records, including demographics, medication lists, disease states, allergies, insurance information, and prescription details, while utilizing a pharmacy management system to screen for drug interactions.
  • Prescription Processing and Billing: Process prescriptions and bill insurance for payment, ensuring seamless communication with patients and healthcare providers.
  • Patient Financial Assistance: Assist patients in applying for financial assistance through manufacturer or foundation programs for high-dollar oral drugs.
  • Resource and Support: Act as a resource for other staff members on dispensing oral drugs, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in ordering and ensuring the most cost-effective drugs are obtained from vendors, while maintaining accurate inventory levels.
  • Drug Recalls and Returns: Receive, verify, and process drug orders, ensuring compliance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Prescription Preparation and Verification: Prepare and label prescriptions, ensuring accuracy and verification by a physician or pharmacist.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain and file daily reports, documenting all patient interactions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and tracking monthly inventory in the pharmacy management system.
  • Patient Monitoring and Follow-up: Assist with patient monitoring activities, including prescription refills, adherence, and persistence, while interacting with patients regarding prescription dispensing, financial assistance, and follow-up.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Entry-level position with experience in a retail pharmacy setting preferred.
  • Certification: Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate recommended, unless required by state law.
