The CRNA provides anesthetic care for all patients in cooperation with the supervising physician, following Department of Anesthesiology standards and hospital policies. They administer anesthesia, monitor patients' reactions to sedatives and anesthetic agents, and inform the anesthesiologist of any adverse conditions that may threaten patient safety.
Responsibilities include administering anesthesia and related care, assuming responsibility for controlled substances, assisting with teaching and evaluation of newly hired CRNAs, GRNAs, and SRNAs, and participating in the Quality Improvement (QI) process.
Qualifications include a graduate degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia education program, knowledge of controlled substance policies, and licensure, certifications, and clearances as required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the institution of employment.
