Are you a recent nursing school graduate eager to embark on your nursing journey? Our Graduate Nurse Rotational Program is designed for you. This program offers the opportunity to rotate through various departments within the hospital's medicine service line, allowing you to acquire essential skills while being guided by experienced nursing professionals.
About UPMC Shadyside:
At UPMC Shadyside, our Medicine Division is dedicated to equipping new nurses with the essential skills needed to thrive in the healthcare field. Our nursing staff fosters collaborative relationships with physicians, other healthcare professionals, patients, and their families to ensure optimal patient outcomes across the care continuum.
- 3 Pavilion, Internal Medicine: A telemetry/internal medicine teaching unit with 24 beds, focusing on medical and cardiac monitored patients, including stroke care. This unit offers a dynamic learning environment with exposure to various medical procedures.
- 3 East, Family Practice: A family practice unit with 23 beds, catering to a diverse patient population across all ages. This unit provides a rich learning atmosphere with a variety of patient care experiences.
- 4 East, Internal Medicine: An award-winning internal medicine unit with 24 beds, known for its supportive staff and focus on patients with chronic conditions such as cystic fibrosis and pulmonary diseases.
- 4 Pavilion/South, Medical Cardiology & Internal Medicine: A 35-bed unit specializing in medical and interventional cardiology, where teamwork and support are emphasized, making it ideal for both new and experienced nurses.
- 5 Pavilion, Medical Telemetry/Cardiology: An 18-bed telemetry and cardiology unit, promoting collaboration among healthcare professionals and providing a robust educational experience.
What is the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program (GNRP)?
UPMC Shadyside is excited to announce the hiring of Graduate Nurses as full-time Professional Staff Nurses as part of our unique Rotational Program. Participants will have the chance to rotate through various units for a comprehensive learning experience.

Expectations for GNRP Professional Staff Nurses:
As a Professional Staff Nurse, you will deliver high-quality patient care while demonstrating compassion and a commitment to continuous learning. This role requires independent judgment and effective communication, as you will collaborate with physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and their families to achieve desired outcomes.
In this position, you will set the standards for nursing care quality and maintain accountability for its delivery. Your dedication to the community and the nursing profession will be paramount.

Post-GNRP Placement:
Upon completing the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program, placements will be determined based on participant preferences, hiring manager needs, and organizational requirements.
Shift/Hours: RNs will work rotating 12-hour shifts to ensure continuous coverage.
Applicants must be eligible for state licensure and pass the required examination prior to starting this role.
- BSN preferred; candidates with an Associate's Degree or MSN may be considered.
- Completion of a nursing internship or clinical transition course is preferred.
- Ability to assess patient needs and establish positive relationships with patients and their families.
- Critical thinking skills to deliver high-quality patient care.
Licensure and Certifications:
- Current Pennsylvania RN licensure required or a Temporary Practice Permit with commitment to take the NCLEX.
- CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Background checks and clearances as per regulations.
