Position Overview:
The Regional Financial Manager for Northern California is responsible for ensuring the precision of financial reporting for clients, delivered in a timely and accurate manner. This role involves reviewing and approving financial reports while creating documentation that facilitates the seamless flow of information within the region. The Financial Manager collaborates closely with the Senior Vice President and Regional Vice President of Northern California, as well as the Operational Accounting Manager and the Home Office Accounting Team, which includes Client Reporting Services Accountants and Senior Staff Accountants. These individuals are crucial for the financial reporting process to clients, particularly in instances where LAZ manages contracts with owners. A key aspect of this role is the comprehensive understanding and application of client reporting standards and requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the formulation of the Region's long-term financial strategy.
- Engage in the super region's financial planning as needed.
- Support and uphold internal controls within the Region.
- Collaborate with Operational Teams to address operational and financial challenges.
- Assist executive leadership with reporting needs, including detailed financial analyses and reports.
- Contribute to the preparation of Pro Formas and analyses for new business initiatives and retention strategies, along with monitoring actual performance against projections.
- Support the analysis of key performance indicators in the marketplace.
- Conduct ad hoc financial analyses as requested by executive leadership.
- Maintain and approve procedures and contract summaries to ensure compliance with client agreements.
- Interpret contract terms and ensure accurate reflection of income and expenses in financial statements.
- Provide financial support for significant new projects or initiatives within the region.
- Directly support all administrative functions during the establishment of new locations, ensuring timely submission of necessary documentation and proper allocation of expenses and revenues.
- Act as the liaison for Home Office Accounting, Finance, Treasury, and Compliance teams.
- Participate in due diligence and transition coordination for future acquisitions.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Supporting Responsibilities:
- Review and support all accounting activities within the Region, ensuring:
- Timely and accurate preparation of financial statements by assigned Accountants.
- Compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Investigation of key variances prior to month-end close and preparation of detailed notes for P&L review.
- Thorough understanding of regional and location performance metrics.
- Follow-up on outstanding items from monthly P&L review discussions.
- Coordinate budgeting and comparative reporting with operations staff.
- Own the budgeting process and reforecasts on a location-by-location basis throughout the year.
- Analyze performance and significant variances to budget.
- Willingness to travel as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 6+ years of experience in Financial Analysis, Financial Operations, or a similar role with financial reporting responsibilities.
- 4+ years in a management capacity.
- Experience in property management or service industry accounting is advantageous.
Skills:
- Familiarity with US GAAP and IFRS reporting standards.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and capability to recommend comprehensive solutions.
- Effective communication skills for interfacing with various departments.
- Ability to work collaboratively with both regional staff and Home Office personnel.
- Proactive in seeking improvements and fostering an environment of idea sharing.
