Job Description and Duties

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Examiner II to join our team at the Department of Public Health. As a key member of our clinical laboratory licensing program, you will be responsible for evaluating and approving initial and renewal facility license and registration applications, ensuring compliance with state and federal standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and approve initial and renewal facility license and registration applications, including out-of-state clinical laboratories seeking to perform clinical laboratory tests and examinations on human specimens originating in California.
  • Review and update section policies and procedures to ensure a streamlined process for clinical laboratories operating under a California-approved accrediting organization.
  • Work with the team lead of the Proficiency Testing (PT) program to evaluate PT information regarding participation and performance of licensed and unlicensed clinical laboratories to determine compliance with state and federal standards.
  • Provide technical assistance and customer service to the regulated community, the legislature, the governor's office, the public, the media, and other stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Experience in clinical laboratory licensing or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions:

This position is eligible for telework and requires a primary residency in the state of California. The selected candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
