The Texas Military Department (TMD) is seeking a skilled Medical Care Specialist to join our team at the Texas ChalleNGe Academy. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide medical care and support to adolescent students in a unique and challenging environment.

About the Job

Job Description:

This Medical Care Specialist position involves providing a wide range of medical services, including administering medications, monitoring student health, and maintaining accurate medical records. The ideal candidate will have experience working with adolescents, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will also have knowledge of nursing procedures and techniques, as well as the principles and processes used in providing patient care. They will be able to interact effectively with students, staff, and other healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Administering medications, treatments, and procedures as prescribed by licensed medical personnel
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records for students
  • Providing medical care and support to students, including first aid, wound care, and minor surgical procedures
  • Assisting with medical emergencies, such as cardiac arrest or severe injuries
  • Developing and implementing health education programs for students and staff

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an approved vocational or practical nursing education program
  • Licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in the state of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Nursing experience in a school-aged program or Youth Challenge program environment
  • Ability to speak Spanish
