Job Description

At Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, we are committed to delivering exceptional patient care and service. As a Financial Clearance Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our patients receive timely and accurate financial clearance for their medical services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify patient demographic and insurance information to ensure accurate billing and reimbursement.
  • Communicate with patients and their families to resolve financial clearance issues and provide clear explanations of their financial obligations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure that patients receive necessary medical services and that financial clearance is obtained in a timely manner.
  • Utilize computer applications and online tools to verify insurance eligibility, process claims, and manage patient accounts.
  • Monitor and analyze patient account activity to identify and resolve any issues or discrepancies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient satisfaction and financial clearance processes.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years of experience in hospital billing, insurance follow-up, or customer service in a hospital setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer data-entry/typing and ability to type 40 wpm.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Customer service oriented and excellent organizational, time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Additional language skills.
  • Healthcare finance and/or healthcare insurance experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in a healthcare setting, especially patient scheduling and/or registration.
