Position Overview

The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room at NCH is responsible for the autonomous planning, execution, and assessment of nursing care for surgical patients. This role encompasses direct patient interaction, educational and leadership duties, as well as active involvement in departmental committees and initiatives aimed at enhancing quality of care.

Core Responsibilities

  • Accurately locating and documenting patient care information
  • Gathering patient medical history through effective interviewing techniques
  • Providing comprehensive patient care and treatment utilizing critical thinking
  • Safely administering medications and treatments
  • Assessing care outcomes to ensure patient satisfaction and needs are fulfilled
  • Completing nursing assignments promptly and efficiently
  • Acting as a mentor for new staff and nursing students
  • Maintaining communication with patients' families throughout the care continuum
  • Staying attentive to the needs of surgeons and team members during procedures
  • Participating in on-call duty as required

Qualifications

  • Valid licensure as a Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Florida
  • At least one year of recent experience in the Operating Room setting
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Certification in Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Proficient in basic computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows)
