WES stands as a national authority in energy engineering, catering to a diverse clientele, including utilities, municipalities, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, hospitality, and private enterprises. In this role, the selected candidate will undertake a range of technical responsibilities to ensure that our clients' initiatives and projects are executed in alignment with industry best practices, while also providing support to internal teams. This position will involve collaboration with customers, external partners, and various Willdan divisions, along with mentoring and reviewing the contributions of junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

The Sustainability Engineering Specialist will evaluate clients' energy and sustainability objectives, devise both short-term and long-term strategies, and generate reports and materials that effectively convey the proposed solutions to stakeholders. In fulfilling these comprehensive tasks, the candidate will assume a leadership role in managing energy data processing, conducting facility assessments and field inspections, developing and utilizing software tools, and performing life-cycle evaluations of alternative solutions.

  • Establish and maintain direct client relationships, addressing client requests with professionalism and diligence.
  • Balance time across various technical tasks, including client/stakeholder relationship management, and participating in team activities such as project site evaluations, energy audits, engineering assessments, cost estimation, and the production of interim and final deliverables.
  • Oversee projects, managing all technical aspects such as planning, scoping, budgeting, scheduling, determining technical approaches, delegating tasks, ensuring quality, supervising implementation, and tracking outcomes. Strive to meet or exceed client expectations and achieve exceptional project results.
  • Handle task assignments within designated hours/budget, scaling efforts to ensure clients receive maximum value for their investment.
  • Communicate effectively with professionals across various departmental levels in both public and private sectors, managing differing priorities efficiently.
  • Coordinate, lead, and participate in meetings with clients and other stakeholders; organize team member involvement as necessary.
  • Foster long-term client relationships between active projects.
  • Support business development initiatives for similar projects.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior engineering staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in energy, sustainability, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer License is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in energy efficiency, distributed energy resources, and/or facilities energy management and sustainability planning.
  • Comprehensive understanding of energy conservation, electrification, and decarbonization principles and calculation methods.
  • Ability to create client-facing energy and sustainability planning reports and presentation materials.
  • Proficient in leading, delegating, coordinating, and tracking project team tasks, including senior subject matter experts and junior engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of conveying technical concepts to non-technical staff and clients effectively.
  • A collaborative mindset, comfortable engaging with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
