About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our team at Anderson Dahlen. As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for analyzing customer requirements to design fabricated components and systems for manufacturability. You will work in a fast-paced environment and cooperate with operations, sourcing, quality, and project management to meet and exceed customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create designs, specifications, models, bills of material, and manufacturing drawings along with a team of other engineers and drafters.
  • Coordinate efforts with production to ensure that the design meets manufacturability capabilities, including tolerance stack up and surface finish.
  • Ensure that the intended product or structure will be safe, dependable, cost-effective, and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Build prototypes if needed, for testing and approval.
  • Review customer models and drawings for missing or incorrect information required in producing the customer's part through to completion.
  • Create solid models or update models provided by customers.
  • Modify existing designs or products to improve their performance or to integrate new technology.
  • Demonstrate understanding of design calculations in one or more areas, such as finite element analysis, ASME pressure vessel calculations, and weld design.
  • Perform engineering calculations to size components and process equipment to meet performance requirements, such as speed, torque, flow rate, stress, fatigue, pressure, vacuum, and other parameters.
  • Review and approve engineering calculations, solid models, and drawings generated by Design Engineers and CAD Designers.
  • Customer site visits, if needed, on projects that require onsite installation and technical support.
  • Interact with customers upfront during the quotation phase to better understand the requirements for complex and large systems.
  • Work closely with the quality assurance team to define a quality/inspection plan and ensure that required quality standards are adhered to.
  • Provide optimum cooperation and complete information to Project Managers to ensure on-time and accurate job completion.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to develop production plans entered into the Made2Manage ERP system, purchase necessary articles/buy-outs in coordination with Purchasing, and provide guidance if needed during assembly of products.
  • Work with production supervisors for Laser, Fabrication, and Machining and shop personnel to improve designs through effective communication/coordination and movement of parts and material.
  • Recommend new methods and procedures to improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Keep up to date with research and development as appropriate with changes in manufacturing technology, including fabrication, welding, laser, finishing, and assembly.
  • Maintain and portray a high degree of professionalism both within and outside the organization, encouraging excellence through example.
  • Keep supervisors informed.
  • Comply with Company and Department policies and procedures as applicable.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and promote a team approach throughout the Department.
  • Ensure that a favorable Company image is presented to customers, and that all customer relationships are based on honesty and integrity.
Requirements
  • BS degree in Engineering in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Machine Design, Process Design, or related field with 10 years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • AAS degree in relevant field such as Mechanical Design with 15 years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Solid experience with product design and manufacturing, especially Design For Manufacturing (DFM).
  • 3D CAD required (preferably Solid Works).
  • Knowledge of GD&T principles strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of ASME, FEA calculations preferred.
  • Experience with FMEA, DVP&R, Quality Control, Site-Installation a plus.
  • Project development and leadership skills are essential.
  • Experience with customer interaction and working under time constraints a definite plus.
  • Experience with software/controls engineering and system design principles a plus.
  • Professional work experience reviewing and analyzing prototypes and product modifications preferred.
