Job Summary

Orlando Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Certified Medical Assistant to join our team in an ambulatory setting. As a Senior Certified Medical Assistant, you will perform patient care under the direction and supervision of the physician or advanced practice provider (APP) and act as a leader to drive quality care and a mentor for professional practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Embracing and participating in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
  • Supporting and demonstrating effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
  • Working collaboratively with the administrative and operations staff.
  • Gathering patient data through interview and observation.
  • Assisting patients and families with preparation for examination.
  • Assisting the physician during examination and procedures.
  • Demonstrating competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
  • Providing routine treatments and administering approved medication types as ordered by the provider.
  • Entering medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under direction of a provider.
  • Documenting patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department-specific policies.
  • Assisting the physician by acting as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule, provide patient with scheduling information to obtain specialty testing, and/or specialty physician consultation.
  • Processing incoming and outgoing calls in an independent and professional manner using sound clinical judgment.
  • Helping develop and coordinate the orientation process in the assigned practice for Medical Assistants.
  • Acting as a preceptor and/or overseeing assigned preceptor(s) in collaboration with nursing/clinical leadership and corporate Learning Consultant.
  • Supporting and helping develop quality strategies within the practice.
  • Helping to facilitate and participate in the skills portion of the Annual Clinical Review for Medical Assistants.
  • Collaborating with the clinical leadership and education to assess ongoing competence of Medical Assistants.
  • Leading and participating in departmental committees and special projects.
  • Maintaining reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintaining compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or verifiable applicable work experience in patient care setting) required.
  • Maintains current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
  • Maintains current certification by one of the following agencies: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists (AMT), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by National Healthcareer Association (NHA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • Minimum three (3) years as Certified Medical Assistant.
