Job Overview

Position Title: Art Program Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Art Programs
Department: Art Center Programs
FLSA Status: Exempt/B
Compensation: $66,560 annually
Program Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Role Summary

The Art Program Coordinator is responsible for executing a developmental program tailored for adults with developmental disabilities. This role includes overseeing program staff and managing daily operations effectively while handling multiple assignments with tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with clients on their chosen art projects, assisting them in achieving their Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals. Ensure availability for studio circulation and outings with clients as necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with program standards set by regulatory bodies, ensuring the operational integrity of program services, staffing, safety, and facility specifications. Prepare necessary reports and maintain accurate records as mandated by state and federal agencies.
  • Collaborate with the Art Director to guide staff in developing, implementing, and assessing instructional strategies. Organize art projects and curriculum, overseeing the productivity of the Art Instructors and ensuring client safety and access to appropriate materials.
  • Assist in creating annual budget proposals and review program expenditures, ensuring adherence to approved budgets. Manage monthly billing and documentation for regional center submissions.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise staff, conducting interviews and providing orientation on policies and procedures. Evaluate staff performance and facilitate conflict resolution as needed.
  • Ensure maximum client enrollment by reviewing referrals and collaborating with Case Managers. Participate in case conferences to establish artistic and educational objectives.
  • Oversee compliance with safety protocols, ensuring adherence to the Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Manage medical emergencies and maintain a safe environment for both staff and clients.
  • Supervise facility maintenance and ensure a clean, organized, and presentable studio space for art displays.
  • Act as a liaison for public relations and community outreach, fostering relationships and facilitating communication between artists and the public.
  • Assist Case Managers in addressing client conflicts and behavior issues, employing appropriate techniques as necessary.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts required.
Experience: Minimum of two years working with adults with special needs, particularly those with developmental disabilities, along with one year in a supervisory role.

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation and provide evidence of a negative TB test.
  • CPR, First Aid, and NCI certification (to be obtained within the first month of employment).
  • Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements

The role requires mobility to interact with clients, frequent visual engagement for teaching, and the ability to lift up to 60 lbs. Regular travel within the region may be necessary.

Work Environment

This position involves working with adults with varying degrees of disabilities in a dynamic environment that may include exposure to art materials and varying noise levels.
