Overview

This position is designed for individuals who can perform at a high level in the field of conservation and maintenance. The role may require working additional hours as necessary, particularly during adverse weather conditions or emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are essential to the role and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities: Implements conservation and preservation techniques to effectively manage the state's natural resources, including activities such as planting, cultivating, and maintaining trees, flowers, shrubs, and crops, along with grounds management and pest control.
Conducts maintenance and repairs across various trades, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, and construction, while supporting senior staff on larger projects.
Operates a range of equipment and vehicles, both marine and land-based.
Responsible for the upkeep and repair of various tools and vehicles.
Engages with the public to provide information and respond to inquiries regarding agency programs and initiatives.
Ensures the safe use of state-managed grounds and facilities by the public.
Completes necessary documentation, maintains records, and tracks daily activities, equipment inventory, and service logs.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Conservation Technician II
Candidates must demonstrate education, training, and/or experience in the following areas:

At least six months of experience in operating and maintaining vehicles and landscaping equipment. A minimum of six months of experience in horticulture or arboriculture, including knowledge of plant care, pest management, and landscaping practices. Familiarity with overseeing and evaluating the work of others. A valid Driver's License is required (must not be suspended, revoked, or disqualified).

Employment Conditions

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The State of Delaware participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with necessary information to confirm work authorization.
