Key Responsibilities

The Home Health Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant (PTA, LPTA) is responsible for implementing treatment plans and providing exercise guidance and patient education to enhance the well-being of patients while adhering to the established care plan.

  • Ensure compliance with all state regulations governing physical therapy in home care, executing treatment plans as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist; perform only those procedures for which you are qualified and trained, and recommend any necessary adjustments to the care plan to the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Guide and assist patients in both active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait training, activities of daily living (ADL), safety protocols, and prosthetic training.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate with the supervising Physical Therapist, nurse supervisor, and/or physician regarding the patient's response to treatment and any changes in their condition. Collaborate with other healthcare team members as needed.
  • Educate patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare team members on therapy practices within the scope of the Physical Therapy Assistant's role.

Required Qualifications

Licensing Requirements

  • Must hold a current license, registration, or certification to assist in the practice of physical therapy in the state of employment.
  • Current CPR certification is mandatory.
  • A valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and reliable access to transportation are required.
