Position Overview

The Surgical Assistant is an integral part of the surgical team, providing essential support to the surgeon during procedures. This role involves collaborating with various healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality care for patients in the perioperative setting. Key responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating the safe transportation of patients to and from the surgical area as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exhibit a thorough understanding of aseptic techniques and their application in surgical settings.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the physiological and anatomical considerations relevant to surgical procedures.
  • Review patient medical records and communicate vital information to the surgical team.
  • Assist in positioning patients and preparing necessary equipment for surgeries.
  • Manage time efficiently and adhere to on-call responsibilities.
  • Comply with hospital policies regarding attendance, confidentiality, and safety.
  • Complete required training to maintain competencies.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Assistant program or completion of the Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) course.
  • BLS certification from AHA is required; Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of surgical training experience or completion of a military surgical technology program.
Physical and Personal Requirements
  • Exceptional dexterity and the ability to respond quickly in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Capability to safely transport patients and work under challenging conditions.
