Job Summary:

As a Special Education Teacher at Jackson County ISD, you will play a vital role in supporting students with cognitive and autism impairments. We are seeking a highly qualified educator who can create engaging learning experiences and provide individualized support to help students achieve their full potential.

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced teacher who can implement instructional activities defined by performance objectives, develop student activities in coordination with teacher assistants, and maintain effective relationships with ancillary staff and parents. The successful candidate will also be responsible for planning curriculum, lessons, and Special Education programs and teaching methods, as well as evaluating students' progress based on papers submitted, test scores, and observations made in and out of the classroom.

Responsibilities:

  1. Instructional Planning and Implementation: Implement instructional activities defined by existing performance objectives.
  2. Student Activities Development: Plan and develop student activities in coordination with teacher assistants.
  3. Relationship Building: Maintain effective relationships with ancillary staff and parents.
  4. Record Keeping: Maintain all records pertaining to instructional activities.
  5. Counseling: Counsel individuals and groups of cognitively and/or autistic impaired students with educational, occupational, and personal problems.
  6. Work Experience and Job Training: Coordinate and supervise work experience and on-campus job-training programs involving the cognitively and/or autistic impaired.
  7. Evaluation and Assessment: Evaluate students' progress based on papers submitted, test scores, and observations made in and out of the classroom.
  8. Physical Environment Maintenance: Maintain the physical environment of the classroom.
  9. Parent Communication: Maintain contact with parents of students.
  10. Goal Setting: Assist the cognitively and/or autistic impaired students in making a realistic assessment of their abilities and establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping with these abilities.
  11. Screening and Placement: Assist in screening, evaluating, and recommending placements of applicants in the schools' cognitively and/or autistic impaired program.
  12. Report Preparation: Prepare report cards, educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation records, and other forms.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need a Bachelor's degree in a field of study related to special education and a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with the required endorsement of either cognitive impairment or autistic impairment. You must also meet highly qualified guidelines.

Benefits:

Jackson County ISD offers a competitive salary package, including a starting salary range of $52,518-$105,246, paid health, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurances, sick and personal business days, and more. This position is FLSA exempt.
