Assistant Merchant/Buyer Job Description

Our client, a leading women's plus size brand, is seeking an experienced Assistant Merchant/Buyer to support their merchandising team for a 1-month contract. This role will work a hybrid schedule, requiring strong analytical skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the department in achieving financial sales and margin targets seasonally by analyzing market trends and customer knowledge.
  • Assist in market analysis, identifying organizational strengths and weaknesses, and determining external opportunities and threats.
  • Collaborate with the Merchant to select and purchase product assortments based on trend data and customer insights.
  • Develop and maintain accurate assortment sheets and buy plans, communicating changes to relevant business partners in a timely manner.
  • Manage PO creation and change management, ensuring seamless execution.
  • Provide monthly receipt reconciliation and participate in Open to Buy meetings to drive business growth.
  • Foster strong relationships between Merchandising teams, Planning, Allocation, Visual Merchandising, Design, and Product Development.
  • Prepare for meetings and organize web samples for timely turn-ins.
  • Assist in creating, maintaining, and distributing sales tools and business recaps.
  • Review new product activations on the website to ensure accuracy and timely activation.
  • Analyze customer review comments and provide feedback to merchant teams.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • 1 year of experience as an Assistant Merchant or similar role.
  • Knowledge of the competitive retail landscape.
  • Strong analytical skills and quantitative abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to work in a team environment, provide honest feedback, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Detail-oriented, process-oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing appropriately and adapting to change.
  • Accountable for results, proactive in resolving problems, and committed to delivering high-quality work.
