Job Summary

The Environmental Engineer will conduct, supervise, or direct remediation engineering projects, utilizing environmental engineering knowledge to perform engineering functions related to environmental investigation and remediation projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental engineering, with experience in remedial design and implementation.

They will work closely with project managers and clients to develop scope, schedule, and budgets for remediation projects.

The Environmental Engineer will also lead a team of staff engineers and scientists in preparing remediation design deliverables, including engineering design reports, construction drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates, and construction schedules.

Responsibilities
  1. Conduct, supervise, or direct remediation engineering projects.
  2. Utilize environmental engineering knowledge to perform engineering functions related to environmental investigation and remediation projects.
  3. Work on diverse remedial engineering projects with a wide range of contaminants in all types of media.
  4. Develop scope, schedule, and budgets for remediation projects.
  5. Lead a team of staff engineers and scientists in preparing remediation design deliverables.
  6. Prepare reports, including feasibility studies, pre-design investigations, remedial design, and remedial action plans and reports.
  7. Participate in meetings with clients and regulatory agencies to resolve technical issues and negotiate remediation strategies.
  8. May function as a task manager on large remediation projects.
  9. Develop and implement field investigations.
  10. Serve as a consultant and supervisor of remedial construction management projects as needed.
  11. Work independently on technical tasks involving data analysis, interpreting results, and preparing technical reports, plans, and specifications.
  12. Delegate and supervise project teammates on remediation design components.
  13. Assist in marketing efforts for environmental project proposals.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or closely related Engineering field.
  • Previous experience designing and creating plans and specifications for environmental engineering projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and with a project team to completion of a task.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 7 years of experience in remediation projects with a focus on remedial design.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential and strong writing skills are required.
  • Must be flexible, client-focused, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team often with professionals across multiple offices.
  • Capable of working under the direction of project managers/senior engineers and supervising junior engineers on project tasks.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following health and safety protocols.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced dynamic environment handling multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
  • Requires ability to travel.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Practical experience with Michigan Part 115 & 201 Regulations and working with EGLE.
  • Practical experience with EPA CCR Rule and working with EPA.
  • Experience with statistical analysis of data.
  • Design graphing skills.
  • Prior consulting experience in Michigan.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and current 8-hour annual refresher.
  • Experience with persistent bioaccumulative organic chemicals, metals, and emerging contaminants such as PFAS.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS, and/or Bentley software products preferred.
  • Prior experience with field work and different environmental and/or remedial technologies a plus.
  • Development and negotiating remedial actions, including federal projects a plus.
  • Federal Superfund Feasibility Study and Design experience is a plus.
