Job Summary

The Pennsylvania State University, Engineering Library is seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Library Assistant. This part-time position will provide excellent customer service to library users, perform circulation transaction functions, and assist with various library operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service to library users, responding to their inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform circulation transaction functions, including checking out and returning library materials, processing payments, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Assist with opening and closing the library, including setting up and securing the facility, and performing various administrative tasks.
  • Shelve library materials, maintain collections, and perform other tasks as assigned by full-time staff.
  • Answer general information and basic reference questions, providing accurate and helpful responses to library users.
Requirements
  • Experience working in a public service setting, library, or tutoring is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills are required.
  • The ideal candidate is comfortable using technology and has excellent computer skills.
  • Training will be provided for the online catalog and operating systems.
  • This position requires the ability to follow directions and keep a schedule.
